I’ve attempted to, but not successfully, though that’s partly due to the artist flaking out. I had to rethink the pacing and the sequence of events though. I used narration, though, which helped. I’m not the most visually oriented person, though.
I was an animator or cartoonist. In our trade, we call this making a storyboard. You draw cartoons and inject your story into it.
I think you can hire someone to do that but the hard part is selling your finished storyboard.
Bit of a different disipline really writing text as compared to scripting a comic. I have tried both and there is a different mindset to scripting a comic. Depending on how your short story has been structured it might not be as simple as putting the dialog into speech balloons and drawing your heros doing their funky stuff.
Any comic ideas I have ever had have remained comic ideas and story ideas, stories.
